Archaeological Dig in Bradley

August 22, 2025

Researchers from Salve Regina University have been in Bradley for a week or more doing an archaeological dig. The site is located adjacent to the Knapp Cemetery on the Main Road (Route 178). A dig was done at this site in 1987 when there was discussion of a bridge connecting Bradley to Orono. This dig discovered radiocarbon samples that indicate the presence of campsites dating back 10,000 to 11,000 years, or just after the end of the last ice age. Also found were projectile points (arrowheads) that had never been dated in New England.

This report was published in 1987. When the new data is available, it will be shared with the Town of Bradley.
